The Philippines is breath taking with over 7,107 islands to explore. How could one possibly decide on where to start? You can scream to the highest heavens, hiking up the country’s tallest mountain, or test your luck in catching turtles while diving the deepest depths of the oceans. I was born and raised in The Philippines and I got to travel both inside and outside of this beautiful country. But I really have to say….
There’s no place like The Philippines.
Filipinos are some of the most hospitable people in the planet. They are ready to greet you with a smile and to direct you the right way (as much as they can). One thing is certain, you will never get lost in The Philippines as long as there are friendly Filipinos along the way. With very little to no language barrier (most of us speak English fluently), its strike up a lively conversation and make new friends as you explore the country.
From massages by the beach, foot spas fish with fish nibbling at your feet, and manicures that end up with flowers on your nails. This country is the perfect place to have 350 Php (approx 8 USD) massages. Spas and Nail salons are scattered all over the country! While you’re in the country, make sure to try the traditional hilot massage.
Everything is available in this country… For a very cheap price. My personal favourite is the street food. I love me some good barbecue and isaw. Word to the wise, don’t ask what they are and what they’re made of, just trust that you’ll love them anyway.
Another thing you’ll miss in this country is the service water. At almost any fastfood joint or eatery, you can ask for water and they give it to you free of charge. Also, you can not leave the Philippines without trying some fresh fruit! Mangoes especially!
While you’re in Boracay, try the chori-burger and the Jonas fruitshake! While you’re in Vigan, don’t miss out on their empanadas. Each province/city is known for a dish!
If you’re craving for a taste of somewhere else, wherever that might be, you’re quite likely to find a restaurant to satisfy your craving. Asian Cuisine, Western Cuisine, or some fusion of sorts, there are restaurants that cater to your taste-buds! All you have to do is ask around with a smile.
For me, traveling wouldn’t be complete without alcohol. The prices for alcohol here is lower than most countries. Only in The Philippines can you buy a bottle of Rum worth 80 PHP (less than 2 USD!) and live to tell the tale.
You also have to take a swig of the different varieties of San Miguel Beer here. You’re better of trying Red Horse and Pale Pilsel if you’re a strong drinker, or the San Mig Light or San Mig Apple (Apple flavored beer) if you’re a lightweight. 😉
Weather and Climate
Being a tropical country, the weather is equally as beautiful. The average temperature is around 27-30 degrees celsius so one can easily adapt. But then again the weather can sometimes be unpredictable if it will rain or shine, but hey, everyone loves swimming on a sunny day or dancing in the rain!
Being in The Philippines makes you more in tune with your nature-god/goddess self. You are surrounded with different species of wildlife and some of the most amazing floras you can ever imagine. There are over 600 species of birds, 300 species of reptiles and amphibians and at least 400 coral species. You can find the giant whale sharks in Sogod Bay and Donsol, 5 of the 8 species of turtles, the Philippine tarsier and a lot more scattered around the country. You will also get to see some of the most amazing rice terraces, waterfalls, land formations and the like.
What are you waiting for? Explore this amazing paradise and check out what you’ve been missing out on! Embark on an adventure of a lifetime! You surely cannot get enough of The Philippines. It reels you in and keeps you coming back for more.
