Last Friday, July 17th 2015, FlipTrip PH held the official kickoff party for Sun & Soul at the Z Hostel. Artists and fellow explorers came together to learn about the initiatives being done for the Liwliwa community, as well as simply enjoying the company of good friends and meeting new people along the way.
The Sun & Soul music festival celebrates the incoming South Swell, the period of the year that brings the best waves along the coasts of Zambales. The swell also indicates the official end of the summer, giving surfers and adventurers one last go at their beach adventures before the rainy season kicks in.
Upon entering the hostel, guests were greeted by our friends over at SMART Bro, who were kind enough to give some of the attendees a treat. Everyone who purchased one of their SMART Bro Prepaid LTE Pocket Wifi plus Php 2000 worth of credits were given tickets to watch Passion Pit, who’ll be rocking the Manila stage on August 13th. For those of you who’re itching to catch them live but weren’t able to catch the booth at the event, worry not! Simply head over to smart.com.ph to catch the promo while it’s still up.
Team FlipTrip was the first to welcome guests over at the registration booth. Armed with a trunkload of Nescafe White Mocha coffee to get the guests powered up for the kickoff party, their ever present smiles and energy prepared guests for the night’s festivities.
The picturesque view of the Makati and BGC skyline served as the backdrop for the kickoff party, setting the tone for the activities to come. FlipTrip PH’s founders, April Cuenca, Jackie yap, and Ragde Falcis were present in the night’s scene, readily talking to everyone who was present. Z Hostel’s bar and staff served as the icing on top of the cake, serving up drinks with a side of good conversation. Nothing beats a beer and a quick chat with the folks of Z Hostel.
The party started with a few words from FlipTrip co-founder April Cuenca, who thanked everyone for coming to the event. She expressed her gratitude towards the people in attendance for supporting Philippine tourism, and the efforts of everyone present to further the company’s goal of sustainable travel.
Z Hostel’s co-owner Cao Ocampo was also there at the event, following April’s short speech. He took the time to thank everyone for supporting Z-Hostel, as well as the initiatives being put into motion for the benefit of the Liwliwa community. Mike and Gabs from Seagrass Roots Movement also talked about their initiatives to help the community by showing the crowd the great waves that are unique to Liwliwa, encouraging everyone to preserve the beauty of the Zambales. Waves for Water’s Carlo capped everything off by showing everyone his version of the environmental initiative—through surfing and providing clean water for the people of the community. He reminded everyone present that “we can do what we love, and help people on the way.”
As the applause from the short speeches died down, CRWN’s chill beats slowly filled the venue, picking up everyone’s energy with it. FlipTrip PH’s crew, along with a crowd where there were no strangers, danced the night away, making a lot of new friends along the way.
